LOCKOUT v1.1
by Paul Venezia
Welcome to Lockout v1.1. This is what I like to call a PDQ
Program. I wrote it while standing up in my workroom throwing
my cat off the keyboard <miaow>. After a few modifications, it's
ready to go!
It's really very simple, you modify the included CFG file,
(instructions are in the file), and make sure that the cfg file
is in your path. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you have only one
LOCKOUT.CFG file on your Hard Drive. Another copy can cause
confusion as to which file to use. Now, modify your autoexec.bat
file to run LOCKOUT as the option directly after your PATH call.
So put lockout in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, and you'll be good
to go. One thing, though, DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSWORD. It's a
real pain in the you-know-what. I forgot the password for about
10 minutes while beta testing the program and got locked out of
my laptop for the duration. NOT GOOD. Another thing to think
about would be to hide the Lockout.Cfg file. You can do this
by entering the directory where it is stored, and typing
ATTRIB LOCKOUT.CFG +H
This will hide the file to any casual checking, thereby providing
a little more security.
This program will prevent any wandering hands from accessing your
computer whilst you are away, and will prevent anyone from altering,
or seeing your files. It does not, however, prevent someone from
booting from the floppy and getting into your machine. (sorry, look
for version 2.0 :-]) But it offers a measure of defense.
You can also include LOCKOUT in any batch files you may have
written, placing the command LOCKOUT just before the command
to run the program. This will password protect any programs
you care to put it on.
It is especially good for laptop users, such as myself, who cannot
be at their laptops' side day and night.
So, 'nuff said, I'll let you get to work, and enjoy the program,
the only fee being a postcard from your current place of residence,
(kinda neat, eh? It's called CardWare) So use the program all you
want, share with your friends, and collect all of 'em, and send
your postcards to
